Wine 1996 Bourgogne

The 1996 vintage remains in Burgundy a great classic year, shaped by a persistent north wind that concentrated sugars while preserving an exceptionally high acidity. The style bears its mark: taut, upright wines built for ageing. The reds (Pinot Noir) reveal themselves as firm, structured and fresh, sometimes severe in their youth, with superb successes in the Côte de Nuits (Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny). The whites (Chardonnay) display remarkable vivacity, distinguished and mineral, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis, though some have suffered from premature oxidation. The ageing potential is very high. Today, the great reds are finally reaching maturity, their acidity having slowly integrated. Between the concentrated 1995 and the charming 1997, the 1996 remains a vintage of tension and longevity.
