Wine 1999 Bourgogne

The 1999 vintage asserts itself in Burgundy as a great year for reds, a prodigy of abundance and quality, with the hot and healthy summer having yielded a harvest that was both generous and perfectly ripe. The reds (Pinot Noir) are the starring performers: rich, balanced and deep, with brilliant fruit and a silky structure, endowed with superb ageing potential, with outstanding successes in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay) show themselves generous and full, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis, in a somewhat less dazzling register than the reds. Despite high yields, the quality is remarkable. Today, the great reds are reaching a magnificent maturity, the finest retaining beautiful reserves. Crowning the decade alongside the legendary 1990, the 1999 ranks among the very greatest years for reds.
