The Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1996, Grand Cru from Vosne-Romanée, reveals clay-limestone soils through this barrel-aged Pinot Noir. Notes of blackberry, rose and cedar, with a silky and mineral palate. Long-lasting, it pairs with meats and cheeses through to 2040.
A family estate founded in 1880, Joseph Drouhin has embodied Burgundian excellence for four generations. Rooted in Beaune, it cultivates a heritage of precision and respect for the terroir.
- Terroir : The vines of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, located in Vosne-Romanée, rest on clay-limestone soils blending chalk and marls, for a mineral and elegant expression of Pinot Noir.
- Vinification : Aged in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new wood, to preserve the purity of the fruit and the tension of the wine.
To the eye: a deep ruby robe of saturated intensity, hinting at a silky texture and a faint chalky brilliance.
On the nose: aromas of fresh flowers – peony and violet – intertwine with notes of wild blackberry, ripe blackcurrant and a hint of damp undergrowth, underscored by a subtle, saline minerality.
On the palate: a precise and taut attack, where the freshness of red fruits mingles with a fleshy structure, carried by silky tannins and a long finish marked by accents of liquorice and flint.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Burgundy glass to reveal its full complexity.
A vintage marked by balanced ripeness, where cool nights preserved the acidity and tension of the Pinot Noir.
- Ageing potential : To be kept until 2040 under optimal conditions (stable temperature, controlled humidity and away from light).
