Wine 1993 Bourgogne

The 1993 vintage in Burgundy traces a fine year for reds, classic and structured, despite some rain as harvest approached. The reds (Pinot Noir) are its standard-bearers: deeply coloured, firm and well-built, endowed with solid tannins and a distinguished freshness that assured them a long ageing, with superb expressions in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay), more discreet, show themselves correct and classic, from Meursault to Chablis, without reaching the brilliance of the reds. The ageing potential of the reds proved remarkable. Three decades on, the finest have reached superb maturity, having shed their initial structure. Sitting between the generous 1992 and the difficult 1994, the 1993 remains a great red vintage, long austere but magnificently blossomed today.
