Wine 1997 Bourgogne

The 1997 vintage in Burgundy traces a warm and approachable year, the opposite of the taut classicism of 1996, born of a sunny summer that yielded ripe and generous grapes. The style favours charm over structure. The reds (Pinot Noir) are round, supple and fruity, immediately accessible with moderate acidity, pleasant to drink from the Côte de Nuits as well as the Côte de Beaune. The whites (Chardonnay) are rich and full, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet, though their freshness is sometimes lacking, inviting you to enjoy them without delay. The ageing potential is medium-term, and most cuvées are today at their peak, or even beginning to decline. Sitting between the distinguished 1996 and the uneven 1998, the 1997 remains a vintage of pleasure, seductive and accessible.
