History of Domaine Berthaut Gerbet

The story of Domaine Berthaut Gerbet begins at the end of the 18th century in Fixin, where François Berthaut's father cultivated his first vines. This legacy was passed down through Firmin Berthaut (1845–1920), then Bernard Berthaut (1879–1913), whose untimely passing left his widow Jeanne at the helm until their son Guy took over in 1930. Under Guy, the estate evolved: wines, previously sold in bulk, were bottled, and new plots in Gevrey-Chambertin enriched the family heritage. In the 1960s, he opened the way to exports to the United States.

In 1974, Vincent and Denis Berthaut, sons of Guy, continued the expansion with the acquisition of vines in Fixin Village and Fixin Premier Cru. A new cellar was built in 2005, further enhancing the quality of the aging process. In 2013, Amélie Berthaut, daughter of Denis and Marie-Andrée Gerbet (from Domaine François Gerbet in Vosne-Romanée), marked a turning point by merging the vines of both families to create Domaine Berthaut Gerbet. In 2017, her husband Nicolas Faure, drawing on his experience at Romanée-Conti and Chave, joined the team as head of viticulture.
