The Château d'Yquem 2009, Premier Cru Supérieur, embodies the pinnacle of Sauternes. Its gravelly soils and noble rot give rise to a wine with aromas of honey, apricot and spices. The palate, rich and fresh, promises a cellaring potential of 30 years. A perfect pairing with foie gras or blue cheeses.
A legendary estate, rooted in the golden hillsides of Sauternes, where the art of patience shapes sweet wines of rare elegance.
- Terroir: Gravelly and clay-limestone soils of the Sauternes appellation, bathed in the morning mist of the Garonne, ideal for noble rot (Botrytis cinerea).
- Vinification: Manual harvesting through successive tries, gentle pressing and ageing in French oak barrels for a harmony between richness and freshness.
Tasting notes for Château d'Yquem Yquem 2009
To the eye: A golden robe with amber highlights, dense and luminous, like liquid honey capturing the light.
On the nose: First, aromas of candied apricot and acacia blossom, followed by notes of roasted pineapple, chestnut honey and a saline, almost mineral touch reminiscent of sea spray.
On the palate: A silky, unctuous texture, carried by a lively acidity that balances the sweetness, while notes of vanilla and gentle spices extend a finish of chalky, persistent length.
Serve at 10–12°C in a Bordeaux-style white wine glass to reveal its full complexity.
2009 Vintage
A sun-drenched vintage, marked by perfectly ripe grapes and ideal botrytisation, offering a rare balance between opulence and freshness.
- Ageing potential: 50 years and more, to be stored in a cellar at a stable temperature (12–14°C) and away from light.
