Pierre Boisson

Wines from Domaine Pierre Boisson: buy at the best price

Domaine Pierre Boisson is one of the finest contemporary signatures in white wines from Meursault and the Côte de Beaune. Heir to the renowned Domaine Boisson-Vadot, whose winemaking tradition in Meursault dates back more than two centuries, Pierre Boisson has been releasing his own cuvées under his name since 2004, alongside his sister Anne Boisson and their father Bernard, an iconic figure of the appellation. Cultivated over approximately 3.5 hectares in Meursault and extending across several villages of the Côte de Beaune, the estate follows traditional viticulture without chemical fertilizers, very long ageing in old barrels, and bottling without filtration. Guided by his friend Raphaël Coche-Dury, Pierre Boisson produces Meursaults of rare verticality, salinity and purity, comparable to the greatest wines of the appellation, while maintaining still-accessible prices.

History of Domaine Pierre Boisson

The history of Domaine Pierre Boisson is rooted in the long winemaking tradition of the Boisson family, present in Meursault for more than two centuries. The modern family adventure begins in the 1850s when a great-grandfather settled as a sharecropper in Meursault, following the phylloxera that had devastated his native village near Tournus. It was then Bernard Boisson, father of Pierre and Anne, who marked a decisive turning point by signing his first vintages in 1978, refusing to sell in bulk to négociants in order to develop estate bottling. His marriage in 1980 to a young woman from the Vadot family gave birth to Domaine Boisson-Vadot, which quickly rose to become one of the confidential references of Meursault.

From 2004 onwards, Pierre Boisson began signing his own cuvées under his name, followed in 2008 by his sister Anne. Since 2017, both children have been actively supporting their father Bernard in the overall management of the estate. Today, the family heritage reaches nearly 22 hectares (15 in production for Pierre, 4.5 for Anne, plus the historic share under the Boisson-Vadot label), and each of the three signatures (Boisson-Vadot, Pierre Boisson, Anne Boisson) offers a singular production yet profoundly faithful to the common spirit of the house: sincerity, precision and absolute integrity.

Terroirs and Vines of Domaine Pierre Boisson

Pierre Boisson's vineyard unfolds at the heart of the famous "golden triangle" of the Côte de Beaune, around the villages of Meursault, Auxey-Duresses and Monthelie, complemented by more distant plots in Pommard, Volnay and Beaune. More recently, the estate has also expanded into the Mâconnais, near the Château de Cormatin, where it works plots yielding promising wines. The total area in production reaches approximately 15 hectares for Pierre, of which around 3.5 hectares are directly in Meursault.

The soils, predominantly clay-limestone with outcroppings typical of the Bajocian and Bathonian, give the Chardonnay an expression of rare precision: mineral tension, depth and power. Pinot Noir, present in lesser proportion, yields reds of great elegance from Pommard, Volnay, Auxey-Duresses and Monthelie. Aligoté completes the range for the Bourgogne Aligoté. Vineyard management is exclusively traditional: no chemical fertilizers, soils worked by plowing, manual pruning, replanting carried out predominantly by massal selection from the estate's own plots, manual harvesting with rigorous sorting.

Vinifications at Domaine Pierre Boisson

In the cellar, Pierre Boisson practices a classically rigorous vinification, inherited from the teaching of his father Bernard and nourished by the precious advice of his friend Raphaël Coche-Dury, one of the greatest signatures of Meursault. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place exclusively with the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries. The wines are placed in French oak barrels, predominantly older ones (barely 25% new wood for the Meursault wines), so that the oak never masks the identity of the terroir.

Aging is deliberately long (15, 18, sometimes up to 21 months) to allow the wines to reach their full aromatic maturity. Lees stirring is measured (approximately twenty times per year), carried out with extreme care to preserve the elegance and freshness of the wines. Bottling takes place without fining or filtration, preserving the substance, texture and authentic aromatic signature of each cuvée. The result is striking: Meursault whites among the finest of the appellation, endowed with striking verticality, a thoroughbred salinity and a complexity that blossoms with time.

The Cuvées of Domaine Pierre Boisson

The Bourgogne Aligoté is one of the estate's entry-level wines, vinified with the same care as the Meursault. Fresh, lively, marked by citrus and superb minerality, it is one of the finest expressions of the Aligoté grape variety in Burgundy.

The Bourgogne Blanc is crafted from plots located notably in Meursault (Les Herbeux). Careful vinification and aging yield a Chardonnay of great purity, already highly representative of the house style, with beautiful mineral tension and a saline finish.

The Mâcon-Villages, from the Mâconnais plots near the Château de Cormatin, offers a fresh and expressive Chardonnay, marked by white fruits and flowers, with the estate's characteristically straight and mineral signature.

The Mâcon-Bray is a more confidential cuvée produced from the Bray climat in the Mâconnais. An elegant, ample and taut wine, perfectly complementing the estate's southern range.

The Murgey de Limozin is a rare single-vineyard cuvée, in Bourgogne Blanc, from a precise climat worked with the same rigor as the great Meursault wines. A confidential and sought-after signature.

The Meursault Village is the classic expression of the estate's flagship appellation. Golden robe, expressive nose of white fruits, hazelnut and toasted bread, an elegant, round and ample palate structured by superb mineral tension on the finish. A pure and precise signature.

The Meursault Les Grands Charrons is one of Pierre Boisson's emblematic cuvées. Vinified and aged in French oak barrels for 18 to 21 months, it offers a dense, complex palate marked by ripe yellow fruits, honey, roasted hazelnut and a long, saline finish. A reference Meursault.

The Meursault Les Criots is a single-vineyard cuvée of great finesse, from a characteristic Meursault climat. Tension, chalky minerality and pure aromas of white fruits and citrus make it an airy expression of the village.

The Meursault Les Perchots, a climat situated in the continuity of the famous Premier Cru Les Gouttes d'Or, delivers a Meursault of rare finesse and purity, with persistent concentration. A confidential cuvée, the signature of an exceptional limestone terroir, perfectly transcribed.

The Auxey-Duresses Les Cloux is one of Pierre Boisson's favorite cuvées among enthusiasts. Crafted from Chardonnay on the clay-limestone soils of Auxey, it offers a superb alternative to Meursault, with a taut, fresh framework highly representative of the climat.

The Monthelie offers an elegant and silky Pinot Noir, marked by fresh red fruits, spices and beautiful minerality. A balanced and delicate red wine with a precise signature.

The Pommard Rouge embodies the more structured and powerful facet of the red range. A fleshy, deep Pinot Noir, marked by dark fruits, spices and a noble tannic framework, built for aging.

The Volnay Rouge, from the famous neighboring village, offers all the airy finesse and aromatic lacework characteristic of the appellation. A delicate and refined signature of the estate.

The Beaune Rouge, from more northerly plots of the Côte de Beaune, completes the red range with a balanced Pinot Noir that is both fruity and structured, with a generous and persistent finish.
