A family estate in Pommard, in Burgundy
The domaine de Courcel, still today owned and operated by the founding family, has always produced wines characterized by great density and a rare tannic intensity in the Côte de Beaune. Advised by oenologist Yves Confuron since 1996, it is managed entirely using organic farming practices and in a way that best controls yields (25hl/ha). The ageing of the wines takes place in carefully selected oak barrels, the stock of which is renewed by one third each year. After an extended extraction of approximately one month, the wines are aged for a period of 21 to 23 months. At the end of this period and after racking, the wines are bottled without any treatment (no fining, no filtering, no acidity correction). The domaine produces seven different wines from plots located exclusively on Pommard, four of which carry the Pommard Premier Cru appellation and account for more than 75% of the total surface area. Among these, notable mentions include the 1ers cru Grands Clos des Epenots, les Rugiens, les Frémiers and les Croix Noires.
