Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is the heir to two illustrious winemaking dynasties from Burgundy: the Rossignols, an ancient family from Volnay, and the Trapets, established in Gevrey for over a century. Led since 1990 by brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol, the estate farms approximately 13 hectares of Pinot Noir, managed biodynamically since 2004 and certified since 2008. The range offers a complete panorama of the Gevrey-Chambertin terroir, from village wines to the three grands crus Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin and Chapelle-Chambertin, complemented by a few parcels in Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Nicolas and David Rossignol now have a domaine de more than 13 hectares of vineyards, predominantly located on the exceptional terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin, which they progressively (but entirely) converted to biodynamic farming between 1997 and 2004. The wines of the wide range from Domaine Rossignol-Trapet comprise 3 magnificent Grands Crus that are the dream of every lover of the Côte de Nuits: the Chambertin Grand Cru, the Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru and the Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru, all of an exceptionally high level. 5 Premiers Crus from Gevrey-Chambertin complete the range: Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru aux Combottes, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle. Finally, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet adds 6 additional wines to this well-rounded range: a Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, a remarkable Gevrey-Chambertin Les Etelois (a plot adjacent to the Grand Cru Griotte Chambertin), a Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons, a Beaune Les Mariages, and a Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Bas Liards, as well as a simple Bourgogne rouge. All Rossignol-Trapet wines are pure and elegant in style, with beautiful density, and benefit from a significant ageing potential. The wines can be somewhat tight in their youth (especially the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus), but they age admirably, and in warm vintages such as recent years, a judicious proportion of whole-cluster fruit gives them that extra freshness which stretches the texture and marks out great wines. The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle is very sappy and refined, with black fruits and spices, carried by a fresh and precise finish that should allow it to blossom over 10 years. The Chambertin Rossignol-Trapet is a true ball of energy, very powerful, compact and reserved in its youth, with powerful notes of liquorice, but it will reward those who have the patience to wait at least 12 years. Great terroir wines built for ageing, Rossignol-Trapet is therefore a benchmark estate on a terroir as prestigious as Gevrey-Chambertin.
