Nicolas and David Rossignol thus have at their disposal an estate of more than 13 ha of vineyards, predominantly located on the exceptional terroir of Gevrey Chambertin, which they will progressively (but entirely) convert to biodynamics between 1997 and 2004. The wines of the wide range of Domaine Rossignol-Trapet are made up of 3 magnificent Grands Crus that inspire all lovers of the Côte de Nuits: the Chambertin Grand Cru, the Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru and the Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru, all of a very high standard. 5 Premiers Crus from Gevrey Chambertin complete the range: Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru aux Combottes, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux and Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle. Finally, Domaine Rossignol Trapet adds 6 additional wines to this well-stocked range: a Gevrey Chambertin vieilles vignes, a remarkable Gevrey Chambertin Les Etelois (a plot adjacent to the Grand Cru Griotte Chambertin), a Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons, a Beaune les Mariages, and a Savigny-les-beaune les Bas Liards, as well as a simple Bourgogne rouge. All Rossignol Trapet wines are of a pure and elegant style, with fine density, and benefit from a significant ageing potential. The elevages can sometimes be sensitive in their youth (especially for the Grands Crus and Premiers Crus), but the wines age admirably, and on the warm vintages of recent years, a well-judged proportion of whole-bunch harvest knows how to give them that extra freshness which stretches the substance and marks the great wines. The Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle is very sappy and thoroughbred, on black fruits and spices, carried by a fresh and precise finish that should allow it to flourish over 10 years. The Chambertin Rossignol Trapet is a true ball of energy, very powerful, compact and reserved in its youth, with powerful notes of liquorice, but it will provide great pleasure to those who are willing to wait at least 12 years. Great terroir wines built for ageing, Rossignol Trapet is therefore a benchmark estate on a terroir as prestigious as Gevrey-Chambertin.
