Wines from Domaine Bret Brothers - La Soufrandière: buy at the best price

The Domaine de La Soufrandière is located in Vinzelles, in the Mâconnais, in the south of Burgundy, and was acquired in 1947 by the grandfather of the celebrated Bret brothers, who was at the time a professor of medicine. From the 2000 vintage onwards, the Domaine de la Soufrandière has been run by the 2 Bret brothers (Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe) and until 2016, it comprised 4 ha of Pouilly Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts, 0.5 ha of Pouilly Vinzelles Climat Les Longeays and 1 ha of Mâcon Vinzelles Le Clos de Grand-Père. The vines range from 35 to 80 years old. Since 2016, the Domaine de la Soufrandière of the Bret brothers has expanded and now boasts an additional 5 ha of vines, already organically certified, which facilitated their integration into the Domaine de la Soufrandière, which had already held certified biodynamic status since 2006.

Added to the range are the Saint Véran La Bonnode (3.5 ha), the Pouilly Fuissé Les Chatenays (0.7 ha) on Vergisson, the Pouilly-Fuissé Les Vigneraies (0.50 ha) on the slopes of the Roche de Solutré, and a small plot of Aligoté (0.3 ha). Worth noting: the labels of cuvées with low sulphur levels are adorned with the mention "Zen". In the range, the Macon-Vinzelles Clos du Grand Père is a powerful and straight wine that pairs magnificently at the table. The St Véran climat La Bonnode shows citrus and saline notes, with a high level of ripeness and concentration. A wine for ageing, for at least 5 years. The two Soufrandière Pouilly Vinzelles Les Quarts and Les Quarts cuvée millerandée are of a remarkable level, full of energy, ripe and very long. Among the best in the area. In parallel, a négociant structure Bret Brothers Haute Couture was established in 2001, offering a wide range of quality wines from the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Bret Brothers purchases grapes on the vine and handles both the harvest and the winemaking with its own teams. In total, more than 15 cuvées are thus commercially released each year, including for example the Mâcon climat Les Crays, with fine chalky notes, dense and opulent, ideal at the table. The Macon climat La Roche, whose mineral expression is superbly rendered, with a high level of ripeness. It is advisable to wait at least 4 to 5 years for it to find its balance and develop all its volume harmoniously. A flagship estate, to be recommended in the south of Burgundy.
