The wines of the Bret Brothers - La Soufrandière estate: buy at the best price

The domaine de La Soufrandière is located in Vinzelles, in the Mâconnais, in the south of Burgundy, and it was acquired in 1947 by the grandfather of the celebrated Bret brothers, who was at the time a professor of medicine. Since the 2000 vintage, the domaine de la Soufrandière has been run by the 2 Bret brothers (Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe) and until 2016, it comprised 4 ha of Pouilly Vinzelles Climat Les Quarts, 0.5 ha of Pouilly Vinzelles Climat Les Longeays and 1 ha of Mâcon Vinzelles Le Clos de Grand-Père. The vines are between 35 and 80 years old. Since 2016, the domaine de la Soufrandière of the Bret brothers has expanded and now has an additional 5 ha of vines, already certified organic, which facilitated their integration into the domaine de la Soufrandière, which had already been certified biodynamic since 2006.

Added to the range were Saint-Véran La Bonnode (3.5 ha), Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chatenays (0.7 ha) on Vergisson, the Pouilly-Fuissé Les Vigneraies (0.50 ha) on the slopes of the Roche de Solutré, and a small plot of Aligoté (0.3 ha). Worth noting: the labels of cuvées with low sulphur levels bear the mention "Zen". In the range, the Mâcon-Vinzelles Clos du Grand Père is a powerful and straightforward wine that pairs magnificently at the table. The St-Véran climat La Bonnode shows citrus and saline notes, with a high level of ripeness and concentration. A wine to cellar for at least 5 years. The two Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts and Les Quarts cuvée millerandée are of a remarkable standard, full of energy, ripe and very long. Among the best in the area. Alongside this, a négociant structure, Bret Brothers Haute Couture, was established in 2001, offering a wide range of quality wines from the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Bret Brothers purchases grapes on the vine and oversees both the harvest and the vinification using its own teams. In total, more than 15 cuvées are brought to market each year, including, for example, the Mâcon climat Les Crays, with its fine chalky notes, dense and generous, ideal at the table. The Mâcon climat La Roche, whose mineral expression is superbly rendered, with a high level of ripeness. It is recommended to wait at least 4 to 5 years for it to find its balance and develop its full volume harmoniously. A flagship estate, highly recommended in the south of Burgundy.
