History of Domaine Aurélien Revillot  

Originally from Mâcon in Burgundy, Aurélien Revillot developed a love of the land, vines and wine from an early age. After earning a degree in agricultural engineering in 2006 and a degree in enology in Dijon in 2008, he traveled the world to broaden his experience. From Burgundy (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) to Oregon (Domaine Drouhin), by way of South Africa (Newton Johnson), the Languedoc and Alsace, every stage of his journey enriched his expertise and distinctive approach.  

In 2009, drawn by the charm of Loire vineyards, Aurélien joined Domaine de la Chevalerie in Bourgueil as vineyard manager, working closely with the Caslot family. In 2012, he decided to strike out on his own, taking over 2 hectares of vines across several plots in Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil. Today, the estate covers 3.5 hectares and produces around 12,000 bottles a year.  

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Aurélien Revillot  

Domaine Aurélien Revillot is situated on exceptional terroirs across the communes of Bourgueil, Benais and Ingrandes-de-Touraine. Rich and varied, these terroirs offer a diversity reflected in the estate’s cuvées.  

The clay-limestone soils characteristic of the region alternate with layers of tuffeau, gravel and brown clay. These geological variations give Cabernet Franc, the Loire Valley’s emblematic grape variety, a distinctive expression. The plots, cultivated according to organic and biodynamic farming principles, receive meticulous attention throughout the year. Practices include mounding soil around the vines in winter, removing it from beneath the vines in spring and maintaining partial grass cover to preserve biodiversity.  

Aurélien pays close attention to every stage of cultivation: from pruning to harvest, each task is carried out with respect for the living environment and aims to reveal the character of each plot. Depending on the plot, the vines are 30 to 78 years old and produce exceptionally high-quality grapes that form the basis of wines of great purity.  

Winemaking at Domaine Aurélien Revillot  

Aurélien Revillot’s philosophy centers on natural, low-intervention winemaking that respects the grapes and their terroirs. All grapes are harvested by hand, allowing for careful selection of the berries.  

In the winery, only indigenous yeasts are used, encouraging natural fermentation that highlights the character of the grapes and terroirs. The wines are neither filtered nor fined, and they are aged in previously used Burgundy barrels, without new oak, to preserve the finesse and authenticity of their aromas.  

Aurélien favors a gentle infusion approach over extraction, producing balanced wines with silky tannins and an enveloping texture. This method also highlights the cuvées’ freshness and aromatic complexity while allowing the terroirs to express themselves clearly.  

The Cuvées of Domaine Aurélien Revillot  

Bourgueil "Sur les Hauts"  

A historic plot of the estate, "Sur les Hauts" comes from 30- to 50-year-old vines planted on gently sloping clay-limestone soils. This wine charms with its elegance and enveloping softness.  

Delicate floral notes on the nose, followed by a lively palate with fine tannins and a pleasantly tart finish. Aromas of cherries, red berries and blackberries mingle harmoniously with a hint of green bell pepper.  

Bourgueil "Grand Mont"  

Grand Mont is an emblematic Bourgueil plot, known for producing complex wines with excellent aging potential.  

Powerful and structured, this wine offers deep aromas and an austere texture in its youth, making it well suited to extended aging.  

Bourgueil "Les Aubuis"  

This single-parcel cuvée showcases the immediate pleasure and elegance of Cabernet Franc.  

Aromas of small black berries and refined floral notes. The palate is graceful and silky, a testament to the winemaker’s talent.  

Bourgueil "Brunetières"  

Made from vines planted in 1955, this cuvée reveals the full richness and power of its terroir.  

A complex nose of red and black fruit, with herbal and smoky notes. On the palate, noticeable yet silky tannins and a lingering aromatic finish.  

Bourgueil "Bretêche 1912"  

A rare and prestigious cuvée made from century-old vines.  

An intense nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and toasted notes. A full, structured palate with silky tannins and a long finish.
