Domaine Blain Gagnard: the sumptuous fruit of a marriage
Discover the delicious wines of Domaine Blain Gagnard! Located in Chassagne, the estate today produces wines across around twenty different appellations: Chassagne Montrachet, Montrachet Premier Cru, Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, Puligny Montrachet, Volnay Premier Cru… And the exceptional and very rare Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet.
The estate was born from the union of Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard in 1980. He is originally from Sancerre and she, Burgundian, originally from Chassagne, with a family deeply rooted in wine. The estate's vines come mainly from Domaine Delagrange-Bachelet and Gagnard-Delagrange, respectively Claudine's grandparents and parents, and from some purchases.
The couple now produces wines from about twenty appellations, among which we can mention: Chassagne Montrachet, Montrachet Premier Cru, Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, Puligny Montrachet, Volnay Premier Cru... And the exceptional and very rare Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet.
The terroir consists of limestone soil and marl, which gives great finesse and elegance to its wines, all with a beautiful structure. The estate's vines come mainly from Domaine Delagrange-Bachelet and Gagnard-Delagrange, respectively Claudine's grandparents and parents, and from some purchases. The vines are planted with Chardonnay (55%) and the rest with Pinot Noir.
In the vineyard as in the cellars, the vines are cherished: sustainable farming, plowing between rows, crushing then pressing of whites, settling, fermentation in barrels, lees stirring technique to bring more flavors and complexity to Chardonnay, racking, then rest in stainless steel tanks and bottling of whites just before the following vintage. For red wines, Pinot Noir extraction is minimal, in order to soften the often uncompromising tannins of Chassagne. Coopers are also carefully selected so as not to over-oak the wines. Jean-Marc Blain always makes decisions that maximize the elegance of his wines rather than giving too much place to power.
Thus, Jean-Marc Blain has become a reference in Chassagne in about thirty years!
Domaine Blain Gagnard produces many Premier Crus and Grands Crus, as well as several village appellations: Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Boudriotte, Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Les Caillerets, Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Morgeot, Chassagne Montrachet, Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet, Criots Bâtard Montrachet, Volnay...
