On the Saint-Tropez peninsula, in Gassin, in the Côtes de Provence appellation, Château Minuty is one of the world's leading references for premium rosé. Built under Napoleon III, acquired in 1936 by Gabriel Farnet, and classified as a Cru Classé des Côtes de Provence in 1955 (one of only 23 properties to receive this prestigious designation), the estate is today run by the Matton-Farnet family across more than 110 hectares overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Acquired by the LVMH group in 2023, the domain is divided between the estate itself (cuvées Château, Rose et Or, Blanc et Or, 281) and the négociant arm Minuty SA, established in 1995 (cuvées M and Prestige). Distributed in more than 100 countries, Château Minuty embodies the pinnacle of Provençal rosé: elegance, freshness, aromatic finesse, and its iconic corset-flute bottle.
The history of Château Minuty spans more than a century and a half. Built under Napoleon III, the château was subsequently purchased in 1936 by Gabriel Farnet, who undertook a complete replanting of the vineyard with Provençal grape varieties to restore its former splendour. His daughter Monique Farnet and her husband Étienne Matton continued the work by planting emblematic varieties of Provence (Tibouren, Rolle, Grenache). In 1955, their work was rewarded by the classification of the estate among the 23 "Crus Classés des Côtes de Provence", a prestigious title it retains to this day.
The next generation, that of Jean-Étienne and François Matton, resolutely oriented the property towards high-end rosé. Carignan and Ugni Blanc were replaced by Grenache and Rolle, and production reached 80% rosés. To meet growing worldwide demand, the Matton brothers created Minuty SA in 1995, a négociant structure separate from the château, tasked with crafting the M and Prestige cuvées from grapes selected across the entire Côtes de Provence appellation. The iconic corset-flute bottle, designed in the 1960s by Monique Farnet, became the emblem of the estate and inspired the entire region. In 2023, the LVMH group acquired the entire Minuty house, château and négociant alike. Today, Minuty is distributed in more than 100 countries and ranks among the absolute flagships of Provençal rosé.
The vineyard of Château Minuty extends over approximately 110 to 170 hectares (depending on the perimeter), overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in the commune of Gassin. The historic property, from which the Château, Rose et Or, Blanc et Or and 281 cuvées are sourced, rests on three distinct great terroirs that form the estate's unique geological mosaic: schists (contributing minerality and tension), clays (contributing roundness and depth) and sands (contributing freshness and finesse). This diversity of soils, combined with a Mediterranean climate tempered by maritime influence, is the qualitative signature of this great classified growth.
The grape varieties marry the great Mediterranean varieties: Grenache (the king grape), Cinsault, Syrah, Tibouren (the emblematic variety of the Saint-Tropez peninsula) and Rolle (Vermentino) for the whites. The estate holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification, with sustainable viticulture, free of herbicides and pesticides, and a natural input of organic matter. Bordered by a protected woodland area, the vines benefit from a privileged ecosystem. The harvests are entirely manual in order to preserve the integrity of the berries, an essential condition for producing rosés of great aromatic purity. For the M and Prestige négociant cuvées, Minuty SA selects its grapes from across the entire Côtes de Provence appellation, from the coastline to the foothills of the Sainte-Victoire.
In the cellar, Château Minuty practises a highly technically precise vinification, inherited from more than 80 years of family expertise. The rosés are obtained by direct pressing of whole grapes, which extracts pale, fresh and aromatic juices. For exceptional cuvées such as Rose et Or, only the free-run juices (the first, finest and purest juices) are selected. The clarification of the musts takes place at low temperature, followed by alcoholic fermentation conducted between 14 and 16°C depending on the batches, in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, in order to preserve the primary aromas.
No malolactic fermentation is carried out on the rosés, guaranteeing their characteristic vivacity and natural balance. The wines are then racked and progressively decanted during the winter period, then blended according to the characteristics of the vintage and grape varieties. The estate has equipped itself with bottling in an inert atmosphere, which preserves aromatic purity. The whites and certain exceptional cuvées benefit from barrel ageing (up to 24 months for Rose et Or). Altogether, this produces a recognisable signature: pale pink robe with rose petal highlights, expressive nose of red fruits, white peach and flowers, a lively and silky palate with acidic tension and an airy, refreshing texture. A remarkable stylistic consistency that has earned Minuty its worldwide reputation.
