Guillaume OVERNOY succeeded his father Jean Louis at the family estate in 2013, when he was only 19 years old. The estate had existed since 1982 as a mixed farming operation, located in the village of Orbagna, in the southern Revermont. Little by little, his father Jean Louis had dedicated Domaine Overnoy to viticulture by acquiring several plots. It is no simple matter in the Jura to bear the same family name as his great-uncle Pierre Overnoy, the legendary winemaker from Pupillin; but Guillaume Overnoy is now striving to make a name for himself, and one must acknowledge that he is succeeding, with considerable talent.

The TOP winemakers of Jura

The Guillaume Overnoy estate spans nearly 6 hectares of vineyard, and since his arrival, Guillaume Overnoy has converted it to organic farming. The entire vineyard is planted with Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard. Guillaume has gradually decided to craft numerous single-parcel cuvées that reflect the full diversity of terroirs within his estate. Moreover, in terms of winemaking, Guillaume Overnoy excels, and his wines were quickly recognised by critics for their purity, fruit, energy and tension. In the cellar, Guillaume uses low doses of sulphur, fermentations are initiated by indigenous yeasts, and ageing is extended in barrels. The range of wines is now quite complete, and within the Côtes du Jura range, one will note the ouillé Savagnin cuvée from Guillaume Overnoy, which is aged for 38 months in the cellar, and reveals its subtle aromas of citrus and stone. The palate is chiselled, precise and frank while retaining admirable substance. A very fine wine… the typé Savagnin from Guillaume Overnoy is aged for 4 years under a veil, where the yeasts will have shaped this Savagnin endowed with a remarkable aromatic richness, accompanied by a superb mineral structure. In this wine, one finds aromas of dried fruits, walnuts and gentle spice notes. A great table wine. Still within the Jura whites, the Chardonnay vigne derrière cuvée from Guillaume Overnoy is a very fine single-parcel selection aged extensively under wood (22 months of ageing), and always displaying great depth, minerality and finesse. It is a wine for ageing over at least 10 years. The Chardonnay sous voile Typé from Guillaume Overnoy has been aged under a veil for 30 months, and comes from a clay and marl terroir. On the palate, it shows beautiful aromatic power, yet with finesse and subtlety, with aromas of almond, hazelnut and honey. Of great length on the palate, this wine can be kept for at least 10 to 12 years, and will pair beautifully with pressed cheeses and creamy dishes. Guillaume Overnoy ventured into orange wines (maceration wines) with the Chardonnay Au Vignet from Guillaume Overnoy, a well-balanced and restrained wine that confirms itself as a fine achievement of the estate. Finally, in Jura red, the cuvée « Rougissime » is a blend of 70% Trousseau, 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Poulsard. The wine is a true delight with an exuberant bouquet of a basket of small red fruits with a light hint of pepper. On the palate, the wine is very delicate and luscious, yet with depth, and it is a pure pleasure. Highly recommended.
