The TOP winemakers of Jura

History of the estate 

Of Japanese origin and trained as an engineer, Kenjiro Kagami decided to settle in France in 2001. A year later, after working hard to learn French, he embarked on oenology training in Burgundy. At the end of his studies in 2004, he worked for a year with Thierry Allemand in Cornas. Then, from 2005 to 2010, he deepened his winemaking skills with Bruno Schueller.

The desire to produce his own wine becomes increasingly present... With the support of the renowned Jean-François Ganevat, a true star of Jura, Kenjiro Kagami purchases his own wine estate in Grusse. His vines are located just below one of Ganevat's parcels. 

He names it Domaine des Miroirs, an obvious choice since "Kagami" means "mirror" in Japanese and he wishes to shape the estate in his image! 

Kenjiro Kagami was the pioneer among Japanese winemakers settling in France to produce living wines and launched this hype! 

Terroirs, Vineyards and Vinification 

The estate extends over 3 hectares on limestone and very steep soils! 1.5 hectares of Chardonnay, 1 hectare of Savagnin, 40 ares of Poulsard and 20 ares of Trousseau. The volumes produced are therefore very small! 

The vines are carefully tended and worked with love: the simplest possible vinification, without sulfur, without additives, in vats or barrels to produce highly expressive natural wines! 4 to 5 years in the cellar does them the greatest good. 

The estate's cuvées 

Discover magnificent cuvées such as Entre Deux Bleus Les Saugettes, Entre Deux Bleus Innés, Mizuiro Les Saugettes, Mon Rythme Son Rythme, Ja Do, Ja Nai, Sonorité du Vent or I need the sun which showcase the vinified grape varieties 

Unfortunately, 80% of the production is directly exported to Japan! It is therefore rare to find these bottles... Rarity and Excellence have thus driven up the prices of this legendary Jura estate. 

 

The wines of Jura are currently booming and the names of certain renowned winemakers are turning heads: Pierre Overnoy, Jacques Puffeney, Jean Francois Ganevat, Jean Bourdy, Jean Macle, Pignier, Tissot, Domaine de la Pinte… These essential producers are purists, seeking the purest expression of their terroir, particularly by working the vines organically/biodynamically. Jura winemakers are the most organic in France, working in a collective spirit.
