Domaine Jacques Prieur: the greatest appellations of Burgundy!
Domaine Jacques Prieur is probably one of the greatest estates in Burgundy : it encompasses no fewer than twenty or so appellations (covering 21 hectares), including some of the finest!
Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Chevalier Montrachet, Clos Vougeot, Corton-Bressandre, Corton-Charlemagne, Echezeaux, Montrachet, Musigny, Beaune Champs-Pimont, Beaune Clos de la Féguine, Beaune Grèves, Meursault (Charmes, Perrières and Santenots), Puligny Montrachet les Combettes, Volnay Champans, Volnay Clos des Santenots, and Volnay Santenots. All carry a 1st Cru or Grand Cru designation, except the monopole Meursault Clos des Mazeray.
Founded in 1870, this estate places the vineyard and its land first. It has always practiced environmentally mindful viticulture, combining organic and sustainable methods to continually improve its vines and the quality of its wines.
The result? Remarkably consistent wines, “full-bodied, powerful, and flavorful, standard-bearers for great modern Burgundies.” (Revue des Vins de France).
To quote the Bettane & Desseauve guide: “The whites combine richness and tension with welcome silkiness, while the reds offer a generous style with fruit that always shines through.”
