The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Célestins 1983 from Henri Bonneau, crafted from Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, is aged in large oak foudres. Its nose blends ripe fruits, garrigue and spices, while the palate, velvety and mineral, offers a beautiful persistence. A wine for cellaring, it accompanies red meats and game with elegance.
Heir to a winemaking lineage dating back to 1667, Domaine Henri Bonneau embodies the soul of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where tradition and terroir have been united for twelve generations.
- Terroir: Soils of rounded galets and red clays from the Côtes-du-Rhône, bathed in Mediterranean sunshine, lending the wines a mineral structure and unique depth.
- Vinification: Aged in large oak foudres, with respect for old vines and a non-interventionist approach to reveal the purity of the fruit and the complexity of the terroir.
Tasting notes for Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Célestins 1983
To the eye: A garnet robe with brick-red reflections, dense and silky, betraying four decades of elegant maturation.
On the nose: First notes of candied black cherry and ripe fig, followed by a breath of garrigue, liquorice, and a saline touch reminiscent of the winds of the Rhône.
On the palate: A velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, stretching into a long, spiced finish where black pepper and blond tobacco intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy glass to release its full complexity.
