The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 1988 Réserve des Célestins by Henri Bonneau, from old Grenache vines, combines black cherry, thyme, and spices. Aged in large oak casks, it captivates with its silky palate and minerality. Ideal with game or aged cheeses, it promises extended cellaring.
A family estate rooted in the mythical lands of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where tradition has been passed down through twelve generations.
- Terroir: Rounded pebble and red clay soils of the southern Rhône, shaping wines of mineral depth and rare elegance.
- Vinification: A non-interventionist approach, with late harvests and ageing in old large oak casks, yielding cuvées of remarkable tension and complexity.
Tasting notes for Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Célestins 1988
To the eye: A deep garnet robe with tawny highlights, of a silky texture and chalky density.
On the nose: aromas of black cherry in eau-de-vie, wild garrigue, soft spices, and cedar, lifted by a saline touch and a stony minerality.
On the palate: A full, velvety attack, carried by a lively acidity and mineral tension, with a long and persistent finish where candied fruits and notes of blond tobacco intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
