Marked by a very hot and humid summer in Bordeaux, which led to a bit of rot, the hot and dry months of September and October, however, enabled the production of a a very good vintage. For 1983 Margaux wines, it was even better than 1982, and produced great or very good wines. Great successes for 1983 Pauillac Grands Crus Classes wines and to a lesser extent for 1983 Saint Julien or 1983 Saint Estephe. In white Bordeaux, a good vintage with notable successes. Excellent Sauternes and Barsac sweet wines, with an exceptional Yquem, and very beautiful Climens, De Fargues, Gillette, Lafaurie Peyraguey and Rieussec. In Burgundy, the 1983 vintage was complicated due to a delicate weather (very hot in May with hail, very humid summer). Certain 1983 red Burgundy wines that were not very pleasant for in their youth (astringent) were able to find a balance with age, and in white Burgundy, the wines are of good acidity such as in Chablis Grands Crus. The 1983 year marked a new harvest record for Champagne, the successes of which are numerous in the big houses, but quite difficult to find today. The 1983 vintage was described as exceptional for 1983 Hermitage wines for the Rhone Valley, and very good in Alsace.
