The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2005 from E. Guigal, born on soils of rounded pebbles and clay, is a full-bodied and precise red wine. Aged in oak barrels, it reveals aromas of dried cherries, spices and leather, with silky tannins. On the palate, it combines richness with mineral freshness. Perfect with a leg of lamb or aged cheeses, it can still be cellared for five more years.
A family estate rooted in Ampuis since 1946, E. Guigal embodies the exacting standards and tradition of the great wines of the Rhône Valley.
- Terroir: Soils of rounded pebbles and red clay from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where Grenache thrives under a generous Mediterranean climate.
- Vinification: Patient aging in oak barrels, respecting traditional methods to produce cuvées with a precise and harmonious structure.
Tasting notes for E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2005
To the eye – A deep garnet robe with tawny highlights, displaying a silky density and a mineral brilliance.
On the nose – A bouquet where candied black cherry, ripe plum and notes of aged leather intertwine, lifted by a touch of liquorice and a saline edge reminiscent of the terroir's pebbles.
On the palate – A velvety and fleshy texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality; the long, taut finish reveals aromas of spiced red fruits and a lingering liquorice persistence.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to reveal its full complexity.
