The Clos des Papes 2022 expresses the clay-limestone soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah offers notes of blackberry, liquorice and thyme, with a fresh and mineral palate. Perfect through 2035 with lamb or truffles.
Clos des Papes
A family estate rooted at the heart of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where a heritage of exacting standards has been passed down since 1896.
- Terroir: Rounded pebble and clay-limestone soils of the Southern Rhône, shaping wines of rare density and chalky minerality.
- Vinification: Aged in oak foudres, with respect for natural balances, producing cuvées that are both powerful and tensely elegant.
Tasting notes for Clos des Papes 2022
To the eye: Deep purple robe with garnet reflections, silky in texture and crystalline in brilliance.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry, black liquorice and fresh thyme, lifted by a saline touch and a hint of graphite.
On the palate: A precise attack, velvety tannins and lively acidity, carried by a chalky minerality and a long finish marked by notes of cocoa and gentle spices.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2022
A sunny and well-balanced vintage, in which controlled warmth preserved freshness and tension in the grapes.
- Ageing potential: 15 to 20 years; store in a cellar at a stable temperature (12–14°C), away from light.
