The Château Léoville Barton 1975, 2nd Cru Classé of Saint-Julien, offers a nose of cedar and tobacco, sublimated by ageing in French oak. On the palate, its silky tannins and minerality reveal notes of blackcurrant. Ideal with game or cheeses, decant to release its aromas.
Nestled at the heart of Saint-Julien, this family estate has embodied the excellence of Bordeaux's great wines since the 18th century.
- Terroir: Clay-gravel soils of the Saint-Julien appellation, where deep gravel sculpts wines of mineral elegance and refined structure.
- Vinification: Rigorous tradition – ageing in French oak barrels, extended maceration and respect for natural balances, for cuvées that are both powerful and harmonious.
Tasting notes for Château Léoville Barton 1975
To the eye: Garnet robe with tile-red hues, of a silky density and a brilliance subtly dimmed by the decades.
On the nose: Aromas of cedar and blonde tobacco intertwine with notes of candied red fruits, a hint of patinated leather and a chalky minerality evoking the gravelly subsoils of Saint-Julien.
On the palate: Velvety texture, tannins melded into a silky framework, where flavours of ripe blackcurrant, soft spices and a hint of roasted coffee unfold, all carried by a lively acidity and a finish of saline length.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its tertiary aromas.
Vintage 1975
A vintage marked by firm tannins at the outset, now softened by time to reveal a rare complexity.
- Ageing potential: At its peak, this wine can still be kept for 5 to 10 years under optimal conditions (stable temperature, controlled humidity).
