The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023 from Domaine Mayard expresses the pebbles and clay of the appellation. Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre deliver notes of dark fruit, thyme and spice. Silky texture, mineral freshness. Perfect through 2028 with braised dishes.
Heir to a family expertise spanning six generations, Domaine Mayard embodies the soul of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where tradition and terroir are combined with precision.
- Terroir: Gravelly and clay-limestone soils from the named plots Le Grand Coulet, La Crau and Le Pointu – a mineral setting that lends the wines their tension and elegance.
- Vinification: Manual harvesting, indigenous yeasts and ageing in concrete tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit and the freshness of the grape varieties.
To the eye: Deep garnet robe with silky reflections, a chalky density that heralds its structure.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry, black cherry and garrigue, lifted by a hint of white pepper and a saline minerality evoking sun-warmed pebbles.
On the palate: A precise and taut attack, where the velvety texture of Grenache blends with the vivacity of Cinsault and the depth of Mourvèdre, leading to a long, saline finish.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its nuances.
A vintage marked by balanced maturity, where freshness and concentration respond to one another in perfect harmony.
- Ageing potential: Store for 8 to 12 years in a cool, dark cellar away from light.
