History of Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure

The history of Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure has its roots in the 16th century, when the ancestor Jean Bourgogne signed a 99-year lease in 1552 to cultivate the vines of the holy abbey of Marguerite de Bouillard in Pommard. Since then, generation after generation, the Rebourgeon family has patiently built an exceptional viticultural heritage on the hillsides of Pommard. Nearly five centuries later, the family remains one of the great historic families of Pommard, deeply attached to its terroir and the transmission of its expertise.

The estate is today led by Daniel Rebourgeon, a winemaker renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of Burgundy and its climats, supported by his son David, who is preparing to take over. Cécile Évrard and David Rebourgeon perpetuate this exceptional heritage in the 17th-century vaulted cellars, located in the heart of the village. Acclaimed by the specialist press (Wine Advocate, Gilbert & Gaillard, Jasper Morris), the estate has established itself as one of the finest value-for-money producers in the Côte de Beaune, sought after by lovers of Pommard and Volnay in a classic, thoroughbred and deeply Burgundian style.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure

The estate spans approximately 7 hectares, spread across the three emblematic communes of Pommard, Volnay and Beaune. The estate vinifies 14 different appellations, including 8 Premier Crus, testament to the exceptional richness of these Côte de Beaune terroirs. In Pommard, the estate holds prestigious plots in the Clos des Arvelets (vines planted in 1901 and 1925, acquired by the current winemaker's great-grandmother), the Clos des Charmots, the Grands Épenots and the Clos Micault. In Volnay, it produces elegant Caillerets, Santenots and Les Mitans. In Beaune, the 1er Cru Les Vignes Franches completes the range.

The soils, principally clay-limestone, marl-limestone and scattered with Ladoix limestone, give rise to deep, structured and finely aromatic Pinot Noirs. The estate has held Terra Vitis and Haute Valeur Environnementale certification since 2021. Farming practices follow ancestral traditions: severe winter pruning, bud removal in May to control yields, integrated pest and disease management, mechanical soil cultivation without herbicides. Some plots even benefit from permanent ground cover, in order to preserve the microbial life of the soil and the biodiversity of the vineyard.

Vinifications at Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure

In the cellar, Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure upholds vinification methods faithful to the great Burgundian tradition. Harvesting is manual, with 100% destemming and a rigorous inspection of the berries in the winery before vatting. A five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration in temperature-controlled concrete vats gently extracts the colour and aromas of the Pinot Noir without any harshness. Fermentation is then conducted with indigenous yeasts, without industrial yeast addition, punctuated by measured punch-downs and pump-overs.

After the most delicate pressing, the wines are brought down into the early 17th-century vaulted cellars, where they are housed in oak barrels for ageing of 14 to 18 months depending on the cuvée, with a measured proportion of new wood. The philosophy is clear: to produce wines of charm, elegant, endowed with finesse and capable of ageing very well, without excess extraction or new oak, allowing each lieu-dit to fully express the richness of its original terroir.

The Cuvées of Domaine Rebourgeon-Mure

Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Zélie: The estate's discreet Chardonnay, fresh and elegant, marked by notes of citrus, white flowers and fresh fruit. A perfect aperitif and companion to grilled fish.

Bourgogne Rouge Cuvée Maison-Dieu: A regional cuvée from the lieu-dit Les Maison-Dieu, located in Pommard, adjacent to the Château de Pommard. Vines over 40 years old, declassified from the Pommard appellation. An enveloping, indulgent wine, considered an "unofficial Pommard" and recognised for its remarkable value for money.

Pommard Village: A vat-assembled blend from several emblematic plots (Les Perrières with its delicate character, La Vache with its robust terroir, La Rue au Port, La Croix Planet). A complex and structured wine, fleshy, built to age for 5 to 10 years. A classic expression of Pommard, both virile and silky.

Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets: The estate's iconic Premier Cru, from the Clos des Arvelets, a family property since 1926 (3.30 hectares enclosed by walls up to 4 metres high, terraced, full south-facing). Pinot Noir of remarkable sap, with matt dark fruit, full-bodied and deep, ageing with grace.

Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Charmots: From very old vines planted in 1901 and 1925, on a sun-drenched terroir with permanent ground cover. Notes of blackberry, violet, gentle spices, siliceous terroir and roasted chocolate. Medium to full-bodied palate, structured, with controlled fruit concentration, powdery tannins and a saline finish, built for the cellar.

Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Épenots: One of the most prestigious Premier Crus of Pommard. Complex nose of raspberry, redcurrant, undergrowth, spices and smoky notes. Full-bodied, upright palate with beautiful fine and ample tannins, a fresh and vibrant structure, and remarkable persistence. A wine of exceptional ageing potential.

Pommard 1er Cru Clos Micault: A discreet Premier Cru with a dense texture and deep fruit, marked by spices and an elegant tannic structure, built for ageing.

Volnay Village: A charming and fresh Pinot Noir, marked by abundant fruit, a supple and refreshing palate — an accessible and precise expression of Volnay's sensual character.

Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets: An emblematic Premier Cru from Volnay, with a deep ruby colour, a nose of cherry, elderberry, liquorice and smoky notes. A full-bodied, dense palate with silky, unctuous tannins and a recognisable elegance that reveals itself fully after several years of ageing.

Volnay 1er Cru Santenots: A Premier Cru from a vine planted in 1954, with a clear and transparent colour, ripe and indulgent fruit, and a broad, deep and velvety palate. A rich and powerful wine, to be appreciated after around ten years of ageing.

Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans: A Premier Cru of pure finesse, with a fine and complex, floral nose marked by fresh dark fruits. An airy, silky palate with velvety tannins and remarkable length — a lacy expression of the Volnay style in the Rebourgeon manner.

Beaune 1er Cru Les Vignes Franches: An emblematic Premier Cru from Beaune, with a mineral backbone and brilliant fruitiness. An elegant and refined wine combining the generosity of the fruit with a sustained structure, built to age for several years.
