At its origin it covered 16.5 hectares, whereas today it has grown to 41 hectares of vines, all in the north eastern part of Pauillac on the Mousset hill that overlooks the Gironde. The Château Clerc Milon grows five varietals : Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (37%), Cabernet Franc (10%) Petit Verdot (2 %) and Carmenère (1%). The vines are treated with the same attention as those of the Château Mouton Rothschild.
The Chateau Clerc Milon puts all of its qualitative efforts into producing its Grand Vin de Clerc Milon in ultra modern facilities (built in 2011); and, since 2009, its second wine called « Pastourelle de Clerc Milon », a rounder, more supple wine, which can benefit from medium-term ageing but is produced with the same meticulous care.
The profile of the first wine of Clerc Milon is racé, explosive in the mouth and opulent (most especially in 2015). It can benefit from medium to long term ageing (7 to 20 years) and regularly receives generous tasting notes by international wine critics during the primeurs period. The best vintages of Clerc Milon are: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2003, 2000, 1998, 1996, 1989, 1986. The second wine, Pastourelle de Clerc Milon, would make an excellent wine for a more casual consumption and is priced accordingly.
