This emblematic Jura estate, located not far from Arbois, came into being thanks to Guillaume d'Angerville, owner of Marquis d'Angerville, a highly recognized family estate in Volnay, in Burgundy. A lover of the Jura terroir and its emblematic grape variety: savagnin, Guillaume d'Angerville purchased, in 2012, 15 hectares of vines from three different sources, including the old vines of Jacques Puffeney, a renowned winemaker in the Jura, with no successor. The vineyard of Domaine du Pélican, which owes its name to the symbol of the town of Arbois, is managed according to the rules of biodynamics(converted in 2015), already used in the family estate of the Côte d'Or.

The TOP winemakers of Jura

Yields are moderate and harvesting is manual. The vineyard consists of 11 hectares of white grape varieties: savagnin and chardonnay, and 4 hectares of red grape varieties: pinot noir, poulsard, and trousseau. Aging is traditional in barrels and foudres. Among the wines of Domaine du Pélican, the Arbois Chardonnay cuvée offers beautiful minerality due to soils composed of marl. This white wine made exclusively from chardonnay grapes is quite full-bodied with notes of roasted hazelnuts and has beautiful elegance. The Arbois 3 cépages cuvée made from pinot noir, poulsard, and trousseau offers lovely fruit with firm and indulgent tannins. The Arbois Poulsard cuvée is more expressive. The color is pale red and the nose offers aromas of strawberry and rose. The palate is rounder and more structured, ensuring good aging potential. Finally, the Arbois Savagnin cuvée is a straightforward and very aromatic white wine with notes of lemon and exotic fruits; it is a great ouillé white wine with a fairly broad spectrum of food and wine pairings.
