Antoine Jobard

An excellent estate in Meursault: Antoine Jobard

Wines from the Antoine Jobard estate: buy at the best price

The Antoine Jobard estate is located in Meursault, at the heart of the mythical Cote de Beaune, in Bourgogne. This family property spans 6.5 ha, and was created following the division in 1971 of the Pierre Jobard estate between his 2 sons (Charles and François). Then in 2007, François's son (Antoine) succeeded his father, with whom he had nonetheless been working for many years. Methods have been modernised, but priorities remain unchanged, with the aim of producing great, age-worthy white Burgundy wines, born of perfectly ripe grapes, that are true and sincere reflections of the Meursault terroir.

The Antoine Jobard estate is located in Meursault, a commune of outstanding renown for its great white wines. We are here at the heart of Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune, and the Antoine Jobard estate covers 6.5 hectares of vines. The entire production is dedicated to white wine. Antoine Jobard, representing the 5th generation, took over in 2007 the domaine de his father (François), who had himself taken over half of the Pierre Jobard estate in 1971 (the other half would become the Rémi Jobard estate). The Jobard family's presence in Meursault is indeed historic, dating back to 1860. Antoine Jobard has modernised the estate, but the priorities remain unchanged, always with a view to producing great white Burgundies built for ageing, with very long élévage but without seeking stylistic effects. The estate tends its soils patiently, without herbicides or chemical products, and the wines are strikingly precise with an evident ageing potential. The style of the wines can be described as classical, and the influence of the élévage is not dominant, so as to ensure a faithful reading of the terroir for a thoroughbred and elegant expression. The range of wines includes, beyond the Bourgogne Chardonnay, numerous prestigious terroirs, notably in Meursault, with the following Villages and Premier Cru climates: Meursault Les Tillets, Meursault En la Barre, Meursault 1er Cru Blagny, Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes, Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots, and the exceptional and renowned Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières. In the cellar, Antoine Jobard displays a commitment to allowing the Chardonnay to express itself over time, with finesse and elegance. The ageing on lees is carried out in two stages: 12 months in barrels (approximately 15% new oak), after which the wines are blended into tank for 6 to 7 months. Antoine Jobard thus offers Meursaults that express, across the diversity of his plots, all the nuances of minerality, depth and refinement one expects. The estate produces wines of character, built for ageing, and when one can wait 5 to 8 years, the wines deliver a remarkable result in terms of precision, with a chiselled and complex style, while retaining a remarkable potential for evolution without losing their freshness.

In terms of vintages, and more generally for white Burgundies, the most renowned are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. While some vintages need a little time to fully open up, one cannot overlook these highly bred expressions of top-quality Chardonnay. En La Barre can appear tense and austere in its youth, but it is endowed with an impressive substance. The Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots is a dense and powerful wine, with great breed, which imperatively needs 5 to 10 years of ageing in order to fully appreciate its complexity. The Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is a voluminous, intense wine, balanced by a lush fruit. It is also a wine for keeping. Finally, the Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières represents the archetype of great Meursault: very refined, thoroughbred, with an endless finish. It ranks among the finest wines of the appellation and is a safe bet for lovers of great white Burgundies. Take care not to drink it too young (7 to 12 years of ageing or more). The Antoine Jobard estate produces only 30,000 bottles per year, and international demand is very high, which will prompt enthusiasts to seek out the precious Antoine Jobard Meursault.
