Antoine Jobard

An excellent estate in Meursault: Antoine Jobard

Wines from the Antoine Jobard estate: buy at the best price

The Antoine Jobard estate is located in Meursault, at the heart of the mythical Cote de Beaune, in Bourgogne. This family property spans 6.5 ha, and was created following the division in 1971 of the Pierre Jobard estate between his 2 sons (Charles and François). Then in 2007, François's son (Antoine) succeeded his father, with whom he had nonetheless been working for many years. Methods have been modernised, but priorities remain unchanged, with the aim of producing great, age-worthy white Burgundy wines, born of perfectly ripe grapes, that are true and sincere reflections of the Meursault terroir.

Domaine Antoine Jobard is located in Meursault, a commune highly renowned for its great white wines. We are here at the heart of Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune, and Domaine Antoine Jobard extends over 6.5 ha of vines. The entire production is dedicated to white wine. Antoine Jobard, from the 5ème generation, took over in 2007 the estate from his father (François), who had himself taken over half of Domaine Pierre Jobard in 1971 (the other half would become Domaine Rémi Jobard). It must be said that the Jobard family's presence in Meursault is historic, dating back to 1860. Antoine Jobard has modernised the estate, but the priorities remain unchanged, always with a view to producing great white Burgundy wines for ageing, with very long ageing periods but without seeking stylistic effects. The estate works its soils patiently, without herbicides or chemical products, and the wines shine with precision and an evident ageing potential. The style of the wines can be described as classic, and the imprint of the ageing is not dominant so as to ensure a clear reading of the terroir for a thoroughbred and elegant expression. The wine range includes, beyond the Bourgogne Chardonnay, many renowned terroirs, notably in Meursault with the following village and Premier Cru climates: Meursault Les Tillets, Meursault En la Barre, Meursault 1er Cru Blagny, Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes, Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots and the exceptional and renowned Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières. In the cellar, Antoine Jobard expresses the desire to allow the Chardonnay to develop over time, with finesse and elegance. The lees ageing is carried out in two stages, with 12 months in barrels (approximately 15% new wood), after which the wines are blended together for 6 to 7 months in vat. Antoine Jobard thus offers Meursaults expressing, across the diversity of his parcels, all the nuances of minerality, depth and refinement one would expect. The estate produces wines of character, built for ageing, and when one can wait 5 to 8 years, the wines deliver a remarkable result of precision, with a chiselled and complex style, while retaining a remarkable capacity for further development without losing freshness.

In terms of vintages and more generally for white Burgundies, the most highly regarded are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. While some vintages require a little time to open up fully, one cannot overlook these highly pedigreed expressions of top-quality Chardonnay. En La Barre can seem taut and austere in its youth, but is endowed with impressive substance. The Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots is a dense and powerful wine, thoroughbred, which must imperatively be left to age for 5 to 10 years in order to fully appreciate its complexity. The Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is a voluminous, intense wine, balanced by a pulpy fruit. It too is built for ageing. Finally, the Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières represents the archetype of great Meursault: very fine, thoroughbred, with an endless persistence. It ranks among the finest wines of the appellation and represents a safe investment for lovers of great white Burgundies. Care should be taken not to drink it too young (7 to 12 years or more of cellaring). Domaine Antoine Jobard produces only 30,000 bottles per year, and international demand is very strong, which will prompt enthusiasts to seek out the precious Antoine Jobard Meursaults.
