Wines from Domaine Grand Cour: buy at the best price

The GRAND COUR estate was established in Fleurie in 1969 by Jean DUTRAIVE. His son Jean Louis DUTRAIVE joined him at the Grand Cour estate as early as 1977, and since 1989, he has remained solely in charge. Jean Louis DUTRAIVE will now gradually pass on this fine Fleurie estate, which encompasses 11.5 ha of vineyards, to his children.

Of the 11.5 ha of the vineyard, 9.7 ha are under the Fleurie appellation (on plots named Grand Cour, Chapelle des Bois and the lieu-dit Champagne). The remaining 1.8 ha are located within the AOC Brouilly. The entire vineyard is cultivated using traditional methods, with no chemical fertilisers or herbicides. Vinification is conducted without sulphur, with indigenous yeasts and at low temperature, using carbonic maceration. The wines of the Grand Cour estate are lightly filtered or unfiltered, aged in oak barrels and large oak casks, and these wines are above all terroir-driven wines, allowing the soil and the work of winemaker Jean Louis Dutraive to express themselves freely. The distinctive character of the Grand Cour estate wines lies in their superb finesse and fruitiness. Indeed, all the cuvées of the Grand Cour estate share the common trait of having extremely light colours, deliberately achieved through very minimally interventionist winemaking. Infusion is slow, at the expense of extraction, which makes the estate's cuvées very appealing and renders them models of juice purity. It is advisable to enjoy the wines young after a light decanting, but they are never better than when they have been allowed to age for 5 to 7 years, thus revealing the full nobility of their terroir. The Clos de la Grand Cour is located in the southern part of the Fleurie appellation on a plateau at approximately 300 m in altitude. The 6.4-hectare plot, a monopole of the Dutraive family, rests on more or less deep soils over granitic bedrock. This Fleurie cuvée comes from slightly younger vines within the Clos, averaging 45 years old, covering just under 5 ha of the plot. Yields are low, often below 30 hl/ha, and the grapes are vinified in vats, then aged 50% in barrels and 50% in large oak casks for 7 to 8 months. This "Clos de la Grand Cour" cuvée offers scents of crunchy small red fruits that blossom in the glass, accompanied by fragrances of violet, iris and liquorice. The palate is extremely pleasurable and delivers a fluid and flavoursome sap of fresh red fruits. A true gourmet nectar. The "Champagne " cuvée is slender and superb, with velvety tannins, delightfully reminiscent of small candied cherry sweets. As the Grand Cour estate lacks sufficient wine, Jean Louis Dutraive purchases a small quantity of grapes from a few winemaker friends in the Beaujolais, in order to complete his range, but he remains the guarantor of the extreme quality of the raw material as well as of the vinification, to which he brings his personal touch and experience. Jean Louis DUTRAIVE thus delivers great Beaujolais wines to discover or rediscover, and the success of the Grand Cour estate has never wavered.
