Wines from the Grand Cour estate: buy at the best price

The GRAND COUR domaine was founded in Fleurie in 1969 by Jean DUTRAIVE. His son Jean Louis DUTRAIVE joined him at the Grand Cour estate in 1977, and since 1989, he has been solely in charge. Jean Louis DUTRAIVE will now gradually hand over this beautiful domaine de Fleurie, which comprises 11.5 hectares of vineyards, to his children.

Of the 11.5 ha of the vineyard, 9.7 ha are under the Fleurie appellation (on the plots known as Grand Cour, Chapelle des Bois, and the lieu-dit Champagne). The remaining 1.8 ha are located within the AOC Brouilly. The entire vineyard is farmed using traditional methods, with no chemical fertilisers or herbicides. Vinification is carried out without sulphur, using indigenous yeasts at low temperature, with carbonic maceration. The wines of domaine de la Grand Cour are lightly filtered or unfiltered, aged in oak barrels and large oak casks, and above all express the character of their terroir, allowing the land and the work of winemaker Jean Louis Dutraive to speak for themselves. The hallmark of domaine de la Grand Cour wines lies in their superb finesse and fruitiness. Indeed, all the cuvées of domaine de la Grand Cour share the common trait of having extremely light-coloured robes, deliberately achieved through a very minimally interventionist winemaking approach. Infusion is slow, at the expense of extraction, which makes the domaine's cuvées very appealing and true models of juice purity. It is recommended to enjoy the young wines after a brief decanting, but they are never better than when they have been allowed to age for 5 to 7 years, thus revealing the full nobility of their terroir. The Clos de la Grand Cour is located in the southern part of the Fleurie appellation, on a plateau at around 300 m in altitude. The 6.4-hectare plot, a monopole of the Dutraive family, rests on soils of varying depth over a granitic bedrock. This Fleurie cuvée comes from slightly younger vines within the Clos, averaging 45 years of age, covering just under 5 ha of the plot. Yields are low, often below 30 hl/ha, and the grapes are vinified in tank, then aged 50% in barrel and 50% in large oak casks for 7 to 8 months. This cuvée « Clos de la Grand Cour » offers aromas of crunchy small red fruits that blossom in the glass, accompanied by notes of violet, iris, and liquorice. The palate is extraordinarily indulgent, delivering a fluid and flavourful sap of fresh red fruits. A true gourmet nectar. The cuvée « Champagne » is elegant and superb, with velvety tannins, delightfully reminiscent of small candied cherry sweets. As domaine de la Grand Cour falls short of wine, Jean Louis Dutraive purchases a small quantity of grapes from a few winemaker friends in Beaujolais to complement his range, while remaining the guarantor of the exceptional quality of the raw material as well as of the vinification, to which he brings his personal touch and experience. Jean Louis DUTRAIVE thus delivers great Beaujolais wines to discover or rediscover, and the success of domaine de la Grand Cour has never been in doubt.
