The surface area covers 16 hectares, including 2 hectares on the famous Morgon Côte de Py, whose vines are around 70 years Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, the Domaine Lapierre produces wines of unparalleled complexity and finesse, with the commitment to the expression of their terroir. The mineral imprint is conferred by a granit subsoil that imparts freshness and a certain crunchiness to their wines. At the Domaine Marcel Lapierre Estate, their Morgons express a palette of aromas from black cherries, liquorice and spices to delicate floral notes, notably violettes. While 100% Gamay, with even just a few years of age, they can closely resemble to Pinot noir. Their range includes numerous Morgon, largest in number being their Morgon "Tradition" produced at around 100,000 bottles a year and aged in older oak so as not to hide the fruit. Two versions of it exist, a non filtered and no added sulfur version, the "Morgon Nature", and another slightly sulphured version, the "Morgon sulfité". Both have a purplish robe and are floral and fruity in their expression with a huge drinkability factor, they're both accessible in youth and affordable in price. Their "Grand Vin" always announces its vintage in roman numerals, the current being MMXVIV (2019), and is also known as the "cuvée Marcel", in homage to Marcel Lapierre, the guiding light of the familial Estate. The grapes used in this cuvee came feom vines that are around 100 years old and it is only produced during great vintages. It sees about 6 more months of ageing than the cuvée Tradition. It's a concentrated, distinguished and powerful wine of intense fruit and balance. After 3 to 8 years of age it embodies the archetype of a Great wine from Morgon. They produce another rare wine, called "Camille", which is from a 1 hectare plot. It's an intense lighter bodied wine, also with a high drinkability factor, where fruit and freshness dominate without sparing depth, complexity or finesse. The Domaine Marcel Lapierre are among the elite of Beaujolais, whose admiration is amply justified... recommended without moderation.
