The 1979 vintage makes Burgundy a good and very abundant year, born of a generous harvest of healthily ripened grapes, in a charming register. The whites (Chardonnay) are often among the most convincing, fresh, balanced and flavourful, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The reds (Pinot Noir), more supple and fruity, seduce with their easy approachability and elegance, in a medium-aging format, with more consistent success in the Côte de Nuits. The aging potential was measured, partly tempered by high yields. Most cuvées are ready to drink today, with the more solid reds still retaining a little composure. Following the great and miraculous 1978, the 1979 remains an approachable and reliable vintage, more consistent in white than in red.
