History of Piper-Heidsieck

Founded in 1785 in Reims by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, a German passionate about viticulture, the champagne house Piper-Heidsieck was born of an ambition: to create a wine worthy of queens. This dream became reality when Florens-Louis presented his first cuvée to Marie-Antoinette, who made it a favourite of the royal court.

The house took a decisive turn in 1839 when Christian Heidsieck, nephew of the founder, joined forces with Henri-Guillaume Piper. This bold partnership strengthened the house's international renown, making it the official supplier to 14 royal courts. Across the centuries, Piper-Heidsieck has captivated the iconic figures of each era, from Marilyn Monroe to today's cinema stars, becoming a symbol of luxury and glamour.

In 2011, the Descours family took over the house, bringing a new dynamic focused on excellence and innovation. Under the direction of young cellar master Émilien Boutillat, Piper-Heidsieck continues to raise its standards, offering champagnes among the most acclaimed and enduring of their time.

Terroirs and Vineyards of Piper-Heidsieck

The richness of Piper-Heidsieck champagnes rests on a rigorous selection of the finest terroirs in the Champagne region. The house works with 319 crus located in iconic wine-growing areas: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Bar. Each cru brings unique characteristics that blend harmoniously in the assemblages.

Committed to sustainable viticulture, Piper-Heidsieck holds the "Viticulture Durable en Champagne" and "Haute Valeur Environnementale" certifications. The house works closely with growers who share the same values, focusing on environmentally responsible practices: reducing chemical inputs, improving biodiversity and managing resources wisely.

Winemaking at Piper-Heidsieck

Piper-Heidsieck's winemaking philosophy rests on a subtle balance between tradition and modernity. After gentle pressing of the grapes, the first fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the aromas. Full malolactic fermentation softens the wines, delivering a silky texture and perfect balance.

The assemblages, at the heart of the house's expertise, blend iconic grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The cuvées incorporate a significant proportion of reserve wines, ensuring consistency and complexity. Ageing on the lees, sometimes for more than four years, enriches the champagnes in aromas and finesse.

Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut

The Cuvée Brut is the house's emblematic signature. Crafted from a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, this cuvée offers vibrant freshness and exceptional elegance. Its aromas of citrus, apple and pear make it an ideal choice for aperitifs and seafood dishes.

Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage

Bold and indulgent, this cuvée captivates with its intense copper-hued robe, achieved through a high proportion of red wine. Its aromas of red fruits, such as raspberry and cherry, pair perfectly with spiced dishes, grilled meats or red fruit desserts.

Piper-Heidsieck Essentiel

Designed for lovers of extra-brut champagnes, the Essentiel range showcases the purity of the Champagne terroir. With a low dosage (6 g/l), these champagnes reveal notes of citrus, white flowers and dried fruits. Perfect with oysters or sashimi, they embody the authentic elegance of the house.

Piper-Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs
