After training in viticulture, Françoise Bedel took over part of this family Champagne estate in 1979. Initially run by her parents, Fernand and Marie-Louise Bedel, since the 1950s, the Françoise Bedel & Fils estate is located at the end of the Marne Valley between Château-Thierry and La Ferté-sous-Jouarre. In 1999, Françoise Bedel decided to convert the entire estate to biodynamics. Not always well understood at the time in Champagne , this conversion to biodynamics marked a turning point for the estate. Françoise Bedel is indeed one of the pioneers of biodynamics; joined by her son in 2003, the Françoise Bedel et Fils estate has continued to advance the quality of its wines.

The TOP winemakers of Champagne Winemaker

The vineyard of more than 8 hectares spans the communes of Crouttes-sur-Marne, Nanteuil-sur-Marne, Charly-sur-Marne and Villiers-Saint-Denis. The vines grow on clay-limestone and calcareous silty soils. The three grape varieties representative of Champagne are present: mainly pinot meunier at 78%, 13% chardonnay and 9% pinot noir. The wines are partially aged in barrels to enhance aromatic complexity and in enamelled vats to preserve the purity of the wines. Certain cuvées are cork-sealed for bottle fermentation, which allows for light oxidation during ageing on laths. The wines undergo long ageing on laths (a minimum of 5 years for most cuvées) and the vibrant fruitiness and body of the pinot meunier support and call for very low dosages (generally 1 to 3 g/l). The cuvées, l'Originelle extra brut expresses aromas of citrus fruits and a beautiful freshness on the palate. The cuvée Dis Vin Secret is more generous with a rounder nose that exudes more vinosity. The cuvée Entre Ciel et Terre reveals great purity and minerality. The palate is remarkable and saline on the finish. Finally, the cuvée Ame de la Terre has a very fine potential. This cuvée is of extraordinary aromatic complexity, suave and powerful with a very beautiful balance.
