Domaine Laherte Frères: pure and mineral Champagnes
Jean‑Baptiste Laherte founded the Laherte Frères family estate in 1889, planting most of the vines on the lands of the village of Chavot, located just below Épernay.

Over the generations (the 7ème generation is now joining the estate), the Laherte Frères estate has grown and now covers 11.5 hectares located in the Côte des Blancs (Vertus and Voipreux in Chardonnay Premier Cru), in the southern slopes of Épernay (Chavot, Epernay, Vaudancourt, Moussy and Mancy, with all 3 grape varieties) and in the Marne Valley (Le Breuil and Boursault in Meunier). 80% of the wines are vinified in barrels, most often without malolactic fermentation (in order to preserve acidity). The grape varieties at Laherte Frères give pride of place to chardonnay and pinot meunier, with less pinot noir (less than 1 hectare), and the Laherte Frères estate practices sustainable viticulture, with some plots farmed using biodynamics. It is worth noting that some of the Laherte Frères estate's vines are over 75 years old, which is rare in Champagne, thus expressing the quintessence of the terroirs. Thierry Laherte works with his son Aurélien, who will ensure the continuity of the estate. The blanc de Champagne cuvée Laherte Frères Ultradition is an elegant blend of the three traditional Champagne grape varieties, sourced from the southern slopes of Epernay, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. Made up of 40% reserve wines, it is a cuvée with a lively nose, featuring citrus aromas that evolve into more indulgent pastry notes. Built on a mineral foundation, this cuvée offers a lovely freshness and develops delicate aromas of white flowers and citrus, with a dosage limited to 7g. The Laherte Frères Les Longues Voyes cuvée, crafted by Aurélien Laherte, is a mineral and delicate cuvée — a very fine 100% pinot noir Champagne from the Montagne de Reims, Premier Cru, vinified in barrels. The 18-month ageing on fine lees, the blocking of malolactic fermentation and the very low dosage of 4g (extra brut) bring purity, tension and intense freshness. Very vinous, it has superb ageing potential and is produced in only 3,000 bottles. The Laherte Frères Les Vignes d'Autrefois 2015 cuvée is made exclusively from old pinot meunier vines planted between 1947 and 1953. It is vinified in oak barrels, then aged on fine lees for 6 months, and malolactic fermentation has been blocked in order to preserve a very fine tension. It is a dense, generous and fruity Champagne that offers a wonderful vibrancy. The Laherte Frères Les 7 cuvée is singular in that its blend includes 4 ancient forgotten Champenois grape varieties (arbanne, fromenteau, petit meslier and pinot blanc) which complement the 3 traditional Champagne varieties (pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot meunier). These 7 grape varieties are cultivated on the Chavot terroir, where clay-limestone soils and a chalky, calcareous subsoil are found. The juices are aged in barrels that are at least 10 years old. The blend combines 60% wines from the current year and 40% wines drawn from a perpetual reserve of prior vintages started in 2005. A precise and mineral cuvée, with gentle oxidative notes and finely chiselled aromas, accompanied by a fresh and intense saline length. A must-discover for lovers of great Champagnes…
