Maison Drappier Champagne wines: buy at the best price

Founded in the 17th century, Maison Drappier is one of the Champagne houses renowned for its dynamism and its champagnes characterised by pinot noirs. The Drappier family moved to Urville, in the Aube, in 1805. The vineyards extend across the Côte des Bar, the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. The estate covers 50 hectares with a majority of pinot noir (70%), along with chardonnay and pinot meunier. Partnerships and quality purchases (chardonnay from Cramant and pinot noir from the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Bar) complement the estate's own holdings at this Champagne house, which produces more than one million bottles per year.

The harvests are done by hand and the winemaking approach is minimally interventionist. Maison Drappier cultivates its vines using non-certified organic farming. The wines are made from the first pressing, and both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in stainless steel vats. The ageing is carried out in part within the magnificent cellars of Clairvaux Abbey. Among the wines of Maison Drappier, the Grande Sendrée cuvée, sourced from vines over 70 years old, is the prestige cuvée of the estate. Another cuvée, the Drappier Brut Nature zero dosage, offers wines with a mineral style yet well balanced by the perfect ripeness of the grapes. Maison Drappier was one of the first, over 50 years ago, to offer a rosé de saignée and is also one of the rare houses to offer a Champagne without added sulphur; the Charles de Gaulle cuvée is a reminder that Drappier Champagne was chosen by General de Gaulle to be served at his private receptions, and Drappier Champagne was also long served at the tables of the Élysée.
