The Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 2012, born on the granites of the Hermitage, is a Syrah from 80-year-old vines. Nose of dark fruits, spices and ink; palate with silky tannins and smoky notes. Aged 18 months in barrels, it combines power and minerality. Aging potential: 30 to 60 years. Perfect with game and rich dishes.
A family estate rooted on the granitic slopes of the Hermitage, M. Chapoutier has perpetuated a viticultural heritage where respect for the terroir has come first since 1808.
- Terroir: Poor granitic soils of the lieu-dit l'Ermite, at the northern tip of the Rhône Valley, where the Syrah draws its minerality and tension.
- Vinification: Biodynamic methods, late manual harvests and barrel aging to reveal the purity of the fruit and the complexity of the granite.
Tasting notes for the wine M. Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 2012
To the eye: A garnet robe of almost opaque density, with deep reflections and a silky texture.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry and fresh blackcurrant intertwine with notes of licorice, black pepper and graphite, lifted by a saline touch recalling the winds of the Rhône.
On the palate: A broad and taut attack, where velvety tannins envelop a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, giving way to a long, peppery finish marked by nuances of blond tobacco.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its complex aromas.
