The Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 2002, from the granitic slopes of Hermitage, is an intense Syrah red wine. Notes of black fruits, spices and smoke blend with a silky, mineral palate. To be enjoyed until 2027, it pairs beautifully with game and aged cheeses.
A family estate rooted on the granitic slopes of Hermitage, M. Chapoutier has perpetuated since 1808 a winemaking heritage where biodynamics engages in a dialogue with the terroir.
- Terroir: Decomposed granite soils on the steep slopes of Hermitage, in the Northern Rhône Valley – a mineral setting that imparts tension and purity to the wines.
- Vinification: Controlled yields, natural fermentations and barrel aging to reveal the most faithful expression of Syrah, without artifice.
Tasting notes for M. Chapoutier Ermitage l'Ermite 2002
To the eye: A garnet red robe with violet hues, dense and luminous, where the matter seems suspended.
On the nose: First aromas of wild blackberry and fresh blackcurrant, followed by a hint of liquorice and black pepper, before opening onto deeper notes of leather, ink and graphite, all underscored by a saline minerality.
On the palate: A silky yet powerful texture, carried by a lively acidity and an elegant tannic structure, where black fruits, soft spices and a long, chalky and slightly smoky finish all intertwine.
Serve between 16 and 18 °C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to bring out its full complexity.
Vintage 2002
A vintage marked by slow and balanced ripening, where cool nights preserved the acidity and tension of the grapes.
- Aging potential: Drink until 2027, provided it is stored in a cool cellar (12–14 °C) away from light.
