The Fleurie 2023 by Jean Foillard, born on pink granite, marries Gamay and natural vinification for aromas of raspberry and violet. Aged in old barrels, it combines suppleness and mineral freshness. To be enjoyed now or cellared for 3 to 5 years, with simple dishes.
A pillar of natural Beaujolais, the estate embodies the alliance of a granitic terroir and respectful winemaking, upheld by four decades of family expertise.
- Terroir: Vineyards rooted on the granitic slopes of Morgon and Fleurie, where the chalky and mineral soil imparts a singular tension and elegance to the wines.
- Vinification: Traditional low-intervention methods – whole clusters, indigenous yeasts and aging in old barrels – for cuvées of vibrant purity.
Tasting notes for Jean Foillard Fleurie 2023
To the eye: A clear ruby robe with garnet hues, of silky and luminous texture, like a veil of mineral silk.
On the nose: Aromas of fresh morello cherry, peony and wild blackberry, lifted by a touch of white pepper and a subtle granitic salinity.
On the palate: A lively and precise attack, carried by a taut acidity and a chalky minerality, before a long and elegant finish where red fruits and gentle spices intertwine.
Serve at 14–16°C in a medium-sized red wine glass to reveal its full complexity.
