Champagne J.L. Vergnon’s Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Nature 2014 Hautes Mottes expresses the chalky soils of Mesnil-sur-Oger. Made from old-vine Chardonnay and aged for 72 months in barrels, it charms with notes of white flowers and citrus. Its lively, saline palate and exceptional precision complement oysters or salmon tartare.
A family-run Champagne house rooted in Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, J.L. Vergnon upholds exacting standards in its chalky terroir and the elegance of Chardonnay.
- Terroir: Chalky, limestone soils of the Côte des Blancs, classified Grand Cru, where minerality finds its purest expression.
- Winemaking: Oak-barrel aging and long maturation on the lees produce champagnes that are taut, airy, and exceptionally precise.
Tasting notes for Champagne J.L. Vergnon Hautes Mottes Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2014
On the eye – A golden-yellow color with deep highlights, enlivened by a stream of fine, persistent bubbles that hints at a silky texture and generous body.
On the nose – Initially discreet, it opens with notes of lemon biscuit and white flowers before revealing deeper aromas of sweet spices, yellow flowers, and chalk, enhanced by toasted hazelnut and brioche, plus a saline hint reminiscent of citrus peel.
On the palate – The attack is lively and precise, with mineral tension and chalky acidity lending structure to a creamy texture; the long, saline finish leaves impressions of green apple, citrus, and salted nuts in a remarkably pure balance.
Serve between 10 and 12 °C in a champagne flute to preserve its freshness and effervescence.
