Born on the marl soils of Chavot-Courcourt, Petit Meslier Extra Brut by Laherte Frères celebrates a forgotten grape variety. Blended with 40% reserve wines, it offers aromas of tart apple and citrus. Fresh and silky, it pairs with cheese or fish; enjoy now or within five years.
A family-owned house rooted in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, where the seventh generation carries on a winemaking heritage combining respect for terroir with the preservation of forgotten grape varieties.
- Terroir : Marl-over-chalk soils in Chavot-Courcourt, home to rare grape varieties such as Petit Meslier, grown biodynamically to reveal chalky minerality and vibrant freshness.
- Winemaking : A low-intervention Champagne-method approach, with aging on the lees in barrels and the addition of reserve wines for silky complexity and precise tension.
Tasting notes for Laherte Frères Petit Meslier Extra Brut
- Appearance : Pale gold with green highlights and a fine, persistent texture, like a veil of silk over chalk.
- On the nose : Aromas of crisp green apple, candied lemon zest and jasmine blossom, with a saline touch reminiscent of sea spray, all supported by airy, chalky minerality.
- On the palate : A lively, taut opening, where finely etched acidity meets a silky texture, while mineral salinity carries the finish to an elegant, lingering close.
Serve at 8–10°C in a champagne flute or white wine glass to preserve its purity and brilliance.
Non-vintage
A harmonious blend of reserve wines from 2019 and 2018 with a 2020 base vintage, offering a balanced expression of freshness and depth.
- Aging potential : Enjoy within 3 to 5 years for its liveliness, or cellar for up to 8 years in cool conditions away from light to watch its complexity develop.
