The one who became his partner, Jacques Genet, eventually took over half of the estate in 1985, then acquired the entirety in 1997, allowing Charles Joguet to return to his original passion: painting/sculpture. In 2006, his daughter Anne-Charlotte Genet and partner Kevin Fontaine joined the estate, which then separated from 6 hectares of vines located on sandy soils, to acquire the same 6 hectares, but on a higher quality clay-limestone terroir. Domaine Charles Joguet ranks at the top of the Chinon appellation, and its level of excellence rests above all on 3 immense cuvées that perpetuate the estate's consecration: Clos de la Dioterie (2 hectares of 80-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils, facing northeast, located in Sazilly), Clos du Chêne Vert (2 hectares located in the town of Chinon), and Les Varennes du Grand Clos (4.5 hectares in Sazilly). These terroirs with very high potential ensure Domaine Charles Joguet an enviable position, but one must recognize that the quality level of the wines is remarkable, given the estate's size. Congratulations to the team in charge of winemaking and vines, who have managed to promote a spirit of freshness in great Cabernet Franc wines, which offer Chinon wonderful fruity and floral aromas, ranging from wild strawberries, raspberries and currants to violet, wallflower and peony, and in great aging wines, a unique aromatic palette: truffle, underbrush and musk. From sandy soils to clay-limestone terroirs, no fewer than 7 single-parcel cuvées are produced each year in Cabernet Franc and one white Chinon, Clos de la Plante Martin (Chenin represents only 3% of the Chinon AOC). It is therefore a tasting journey through different climats, including fruit wines to be enjoyed young (the red Chinon cuvées: Silènes, Les Petites Roches, La Cure and Les Charmes); to the great aging wines that are the estate's 3 flagship cuvées in red Chinon: Les Varennes du Grand Clos, Clos du Chêne Vert, and Clos de la Dioterie. A final cuvée is called Clos Monplaisir, from a parcel with yields limited to about 20 Hl/Ha, facing due south with a plunging view of the Vienne, and planted in 1979. A very long-aging wine, which will perfectly reveal itself after 15 years in great vintages. Charles Joguet's red Loire wines are thus highly sought after.
