Marjorie Gallet had cut her teeth at Gérard Gauby in 2000, but Stéphane Gallet preferred to occupy the position of technical director at Mas Amiel until 2008, before joining Domaine Roc des Anges full-time. Domaine Roc des Anges began with 10 Ha of vines, but it now extends over no less than 40 Ha of vineyard, including 30 Ha of red Languedoc. Time reveals and refines the personality of their terroirs, and allows Domaine Roc des Anges to multiply parcel-based cuvées, while obtaining Biodynamic certification as early as 2010. Their famous Carignan 1903 cuvée has contributed to establishing the reputation of Domaine Roc des Anges, but the rise in power of Domaine Roc des Anges did not happen in a day. Now, the exceptionally comprehensive range of their wines reigns on the finest starred tables, and nearly half of Paris's 3-star restaurants feature them on their wine lists. The Roc des Anges Iglesia Vella cuvée, made from old vines of grenache gris planted in 1954, is very pure and impressively energetic, with spices and lavender, with a straight and saline finish. The white Languedoc cuvée Roc des Anges Llum is broad and expressive, with great purity of expression on floral notes, white fruits, spices, and aromatic herbs. Its length on the palate is remarkable. The red cuvée Roc des Anges Segna de Cor comes from a blend of young vines of carignan, grenache, and syrah, and this red wine remains in fact the most accessible cuvée of Domaine Roc des Anges in its youth. Its frank expression and fruitiness are brilliant, making it an excellent companion to dishes in sauce or barbecue grills. The red cuvée Roc des Anges Reliefs is a blend of very old carignans planted on schist between 1911 and 1944, with fine energy, accessible, deep and of great length; it is an aging wine that will improve without problem over a decade. The famous Roc des Anges Carignan 1903 cuvée, aged in barrel and whose vines were planted in 1903 nearly 120 years ago, is a silky and expressive wine with a well-tempered southern character, and whose aging will be assured over 15 years. The palate structure is exemplary, and the wine offers explosive fruitiness. It is velvety, juicy and saline, while maintaining an almost thirst-quenching freshness in its finish. The wines of Domaine Roc des Anges offer a true identity of style, to be discovered urgently for the uninitiated.
