The 1962 vintage establishes itself in Burgundy as a very fine year, classic and refined, sometimes preferred to the great 1961 for its elegance, born of a healthy season that yielded ripe and well-balanced grapes. The reds (Pinot Noir) are its standard-bearers: refined, aromatic and harmonious, endowed with an elegant structure and great length, with superb successes in the Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis). The whites (Chardonnay) show balance and savour, from Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis. The aging potential was real. More than sixty years on, the finest perfectly preserved reds still offer a splendid maturity, with the individual bottle becoming decisive. Between the great 1961 and the difficult 1963, the 1962 ranks among the very finest classic years of the decade.
