The 1960 vintage in Burgundy remains a mediocre and weak year, marked by a rainy season and a diluted harvest lacking in character. The reds (Pinot Noir) suffered as a result: light, diluted and variable, they lack concentration and colour, with rare successes. The whites (Chardonnay) are also understated, diluted and unambitious, from Meursault to Chablis. The aging potential was very low, and the vast majority of cuvées have today disappeared or are well past any point of interest for drinking. Only the rarest perfectly preserved bottles still hold any interest. Situated between the great 1961 and the sunny and powerful 1959, the 1960 remains a vintage best forgotten, of anecdotal interest to collectors alone.
