The Château Montrose 1959, from the gravelly soils of Saint-Estèphe, is a Second Grand Cru Classé. This barrel-aged wine offers notes of black fruits, liquorice and a lively minerality. Its silky palate and precise tannins make it an ideal companion for roasted meats or cheeses.
Château Montrose Nestled in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, this iconic estate has embodied Bordeaux excellence for nearly two centuries, combining family tradition with rigorous viticulture. - Terroir: Gravelly and clay soils overlooking the Gironde estuary, lending the wines a mineral structure and rare elegance. - Vinification: A meticulous approach, combining extended maceration and ageing in oak barrels, for cuvées of remarkable precision. Tasting Notes for Château Montrose 1959 Appearance: A garnet red robe with terracotta hues, of a silky density and a brilliance preserved by time. Nose: A complex bouquet where aromas of candied blackcurrant, cedar, blonde tobacco and undergrowth intertwine, lifted by a characteristic saline touch of the great Saint-Estèphe wines. Palate: A velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, with a long and harmonious finish where notes of liquorice and soft spices linger. Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to unlock its full complexity. Vintage 1959 A sunny and generous vintage, marked by exceptional grape maturity, offering today a wine of rare fullness. - Ageing potential: At its peak, this wine can still be cellared for 10 to 15 years under optimal conditions (cool cellar, away from light and vibrations).
