A family estate rooted in Pessac-Léognan, Smith Haut Lafitte embodies the alliance of an exceptional terroir and a demanding winemaking tradition.
- Terroir: Günzian graves, gravelly and clay-limestone soils of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, conferring a distinctive minerality and refined elegance to the wines.
- Vinification: Organic approach, hand harvesting and ageing in oak barrels for precise, balanced and exceptionally pure cuvées.
Tasting notes for Château Smith Haut Lafitte 1996
To the eye – A deep ruby red robe of silky density, already hinting at the maturity of the tannins and the complexity of time.
On the nose – First aromas of blackcurrant and fresh blackberry, followed by deeper notes of aged leather and cedar, with a saline touch reminiscent of damp undergrowth after the rain.
On the palate – A velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, stretching into a long and harmonious finish where dark fruits and soft spices intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its aromas.
