The Château Smith Haut Lafitte 1999, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, reveals the soul of the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan. This wine, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, captivates with its aromas of dark fruits and its silky, mineral palate. Ideal with roast duckling, it can age until 2030.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte
A family estate rooted in Martillac, this Cru Classé de Graves has embodied the excellence of Pessac-Léognan wines for generations.
- Terroir : Günzian gravels with poor soils of quartz pebbles and clay, resting on a Tertiary limestone bedrock, shaping wines of a chalky minerality.
- Winemaking : A precise method – whole berries in small wooden vats, gentle extractions and aging in barrels for a silky elegance.
Tasting notes for Château Smith Haut Lafitte 1999
To the eye – A garnet red robe with brick-tinged highlights, dense and with a velvety texture, betraying a harmonious maturity.
On the nose – Aromas of wild blackberry and candied blackcurrant intertwine with notes of cedar, blonde tobacco and damp undergrowth, lifted by a discreet saline touch.
On the palate – A silky attack gives way to a vibrant tension, carried by fine tannins and a chalky minerality, before a long and spiced finish.
Serve at 16°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its complexity.
