Marc Colin wines, the reputation for great white Burgundy
Created in the late 1970s by Marc Colin, the estate has been run since 2004 by his three children Caroline, Damien and Joseph. The family estate is located 12 km south-west of Beaune (in the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy) next to the Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet. The vineyard spans 19 hectares (16 in white Burgundy + 3 in red Burgundy) on clay-limestone soils on the lower slopes and limestone on the upper slopes (marl-limestone in Santenay). The vines are planted with Pinot Noir (100%), Chardonnay (95%) and Aligoté (5%). The Marc Colin estate is certified organic.
Among the most emblematic wines of Domaine Colin Marc, in red, the Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes cuvée from vines planted in 1956 and 1985, the Santenay 1er Cru La Comme cuvée and Saint Aubin 1er Cru, from old vines planted over 50 years ago. The domaine is better known for its whites, particularly the rare and remarkable Grand Cru Montrachet and Bâtard Montrachet, which have an excellent ageing potential (between 9 and 15 years). The Bâtard Montrachet from Marc Colin offers impressive volume, a fleshy palate, restrained power and great intensity. The Montrachet from Marc Colin expresses beautiful precision on the palate, lovely purity and extraordinary aromatic power — the ultimate… Domaine Marc Colin has 4 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Crus (Chenevottes, Caillerets, Vides Bourses, Champ Gains) and a village wine from the lieu-dit Encegnière. The Vides Bourses cuvée is the most powerful and the most elegant. The other cuvées offer more balance and finesse. Other cuvées such as the Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne and the 2 village wines from the lieux-dits Le Trézin and Les Enseignères are less broad than the Chassagne Montrachet but show beautiful finesse and precision for the Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne (ageing potential of 8 to 10 years) and a lovely tension for the Puligny Montrachet Le Trézin and Les Enseignères (ageing between 4 and 8 years). Finally, the Saint Aubin cuvées from Marc Colin (9 Premier Crus and 1 village) offer excellent value for money and are among the finest cuvées of the Saint Aubin appellation, alongside those of Domaine Hubert Lamy. Among the flagship vintages of Domaine Marc Colin: 2014, 2012, 2010, 2008, 2005, 2002. Highly regarded for its white wines, Domaine Marc Colin has received an excellent rating from the RVF green guide (2 stars) and 3 stars (out of 5) from Bettane & Desseauve.
