A domain with a mythical monopole

Wines from the Clos de Tart estate: buy at the best price

A Burgundy grand cru and 7.53-hectare monopole, Clos de Tart is located in the village of Morey Saint Denis in the Côte d'Or, one of the most complex terroirs in Burgundy. Founded in 1141 by the Bernardine nuns of the Abbey of Tart, Clos de Tart became the property of the Marey Monge family in 1791 before being sold in 1932 to the Mommessin family. This much-coveted jewel of Burgundy was sold in 2018 to the Pinault family, already owners of major wine estates (through their investment company Artémis) such as: Château Latour (1er grand cru classé of Pauillac), the Domaine d'Eugenie (in Vosne Romanée), and Chateau Grillet (a monopole located in Condrieu in the Rhône

Since its creation, Clos de Tart has never been divided and it is today, in Burgundy, the largest Monopole classified as Grand Cru. With an exclusive production of red Burgundy wines (planted with pinot noir) sourced from calcareous and marl soils, the estate practises reasoned agriculture. Planted in a North-South orientation, perpendicular to the slope line, contrary to the vast majority of the Côte d'Or vineyard, this exposure ensures that the vines of Clos de Tart better withstand erosion during winter rains. This orientation also allows the grape clusters to be illuminated alternately on both sides between morning and afternoon, thereby ensuring better ripeness of the grapes...

On the 2012 vintage, the Monopole du Clos de Tart Grand Cru possesses a great colour, with noble aromas of flowers and dark fruits, rated 17.5/20 by Bettane & Desseauve. The 2015 vintage is meanwhile acclaimed by the Revue des Vins de France with a score of 18.5/20, and reveals aromas of spices and crushed red fruits, a dense and concentrated pinot with measured extraction. Just like its neighbour, Clos des Lambrays, the Clos de Tart vineyard produces a wine from another appellation, Morey Saint Denis 1er cru: La Forge de Tart Premier Cru, whose fine and delicate wines are reminiscent of the Grand Crus of Burgundy. The most iconic vintages of Clos de Tart are the years 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2002.
