Based in Meursault, at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Henri Boillot ranks among the most sought-after names in Burgundy, with a rare dual reputation: straight, taut and crystalline whites in Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, and reds of aristocratic finesse in Volnay. Founded in 1885, the family estate now extends over some twenty hectares, complemented since 1995 by a high-end négociant house that provides access to the greatest crus of the Côte d'Or. Father and son work together: Henri vinifies the whites, while Guillaume tends the vineyard and crafts the reds. Low yields, systematic ploughing, late manual harvesting and meticulous ageing make each cuvée a model of balance.

The TOP winemakers of Burgundy

The white Burgundy wines from Henri Boillot include: one Batard Montrachet, four Puligny Montrachet 1er crus (Clos de la Mouchère, Combettes, Pucelles and Perrières), a Village wine, and a Meursault 1er cru Genevrières. The wines are fined and filtered before bottling. On the red wine side, from son Guillaume Boillot, the estate includes three Volnay 1er crus (Caillerets, Chevrets and Fremiets) and a Volnay village. In terms of winemaking, the wines are aged in 350-litre oak barrels for 12 to 18 months depending on the appellation. The Henri Boillot estate seeks the authenticity and definition of each terroir. The whites are elegant and precise, driven by a lovely energy and leaning toward finesse and minerality. The reds are more structured, with substance, yet with a beautiful nobility of tannins that can be likened to a certain delicacy. The prestigious appellations offered by Maison Henri Boillot (négociant) are numerous (9 Grand crus: Corton Charlemagne, Bienvenues Batard Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard Montrachet, and Montrachet in white, as well as Bonnes Mares, Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Clos de Vougeot. Among 1er crus: Pommard Rugiens, Meursault Perrières, Charmes and Poruzots, and Puligny Montrachet Caillerets and Folatières. In terms of vintages, 2014 is a great year for whites with particularly floral aromas and good ageing potential in the cellar. On the red side, the 2015 vintage, with very low yields, is an excellent vintage. The estate's wines being very highly rated by critics, they deserve to be cellared.
